Well Punted.

'The Newsletter'

That's right, I'm doing it. I'm writing a review on the Samford Valley Steiner School Newsletter.
This gripping piece of literature is released every friday, and I know all Friday I anxiously await it's arrival. Rushing home from the bus to present my mother with the light of my week... THE NEWSLETTER. The joy itself, upon receiving it is enough to get me through the week.

Nah! Just joking. It's an alright newsletter though.
So, by rights we should all know the newsletter. As for the plot, it doesn't really have one, except for the updates on the life of Samford Valley Steiner School and its inhabitants. What is pleasing however are the photos, we all love photos in a piece of writing, it stimulates us aesthetically as well as intellectually, which is always good when you're reading something about small children running around with ribbons and a pole.

It updates us with the latest information on something I rarely have anything to do with: the primary school, which I suppose is good to keep me in the know. It focusses different sections on diffferent classes as well as teachers, and helping out the local community with advertisements for housing, trading and purchasing opportunities.

The newsletter also offers articles from members of a higher authority that we often don't hear from, like the lovely Mrs Wendy Butler for example. This gives these figures an opportunity to express themselves about changes that need to be made, and their opinion, which enables us to get to know them slightly more, bringing us closer. haha.

All in all, my favourite part of 'The Newsletter' is the magnificent 'High Times'. Mainly as it provides me with information on the facet of the school I am most involved. I love the student interviews as i get enlightened to information on some students i would have otherwise known very little about, not to mention again, the pictures... ahh the pictures :)

I'll finish in saying that, 'The Newsletter' is a vital part of the Steiner school, i mean without it we may have never known that Josh Baird was born in 'possibly Toowoomba!'

The Media.

So the assignment is to write about a recent world event, but I decided to mix the words around a bit, and write about the publicising of those world events.

We are bought up in this world to be scared, everywhere we go they're telling us to be scared. The television, the radio, the books, the newspaper, everywhere.
Quite frankly, I'm over it, I'd like to make up my own mind, and opinion on these world, events not someone instilling onto me that they are life, or world threatening.

For once I would like to turn my television on at 5 o'clock in the afternoon and be greeted with a joyful message:
  • 'Scientists say the World is ALL GOOD'
  • 'Death penalty for animal cruelty'
  • World's most horrific criminals hold hands and sing together'
  • 'Japanese banned from ever travelling by water'
  • 'Chinese banned from reproducing'
  • 'Ingela announced World Leader'

Now wouldn't this be a nice thing to turn on the television and hear. Instead we are bombarded with:

  • 'The world will end in 50 years'
  • 'Person mutilates dog: gets 5 years'
  • '80 whales killed just this week for Japanese 'research'
  • 'George Bush: 'World Leader'

Take celebrities for instance, the amount of times I have seen the words "Pregnant!" slandered across a magazine cover when someone usually emaciated looks healthy. Yet people believe these stories, people believe a writer whos only proof is 'sources say'

Through providing news and current affairs, they literally control us, they dictate how and what we think. I'm sick of people being the sheep, mindlessly following whoever seems to posess the authority. It's time for everyone to stand up, decide what their decision is, and then voice it.

It's time for us to be our own people, as excellent as the media is, it is not always right, and we need to understand this.

Mandatory.

So welcome to my blog.

You've either stopped by because it's mandatory within our English class in order to pass, or you're a fool who has accidently stumbled upon my incoherent ramblings. Boy you're in for a show!

Should I let you in on the wonder that is 'The Jess'?
Since I am totally and utterly anti 'My name's Jess,I attend Samford Valley Steiner School, blah, blah, blah', I decided that I would just straight up inform you of some lesser or common known Jess Facts.

Number 1: I truly believe I was placed upon this food abundant World to see and devour. I adore food, it is my one and only life force. If i didn't have the metabolism of a 15 year old, I would most likely be morbidly obese.

Number 2: I believe I am a 'geek in secret', sure I act up with 'tha hood' but when I say I'm at some bitchin' party, kickin' it loose, I'm actually at home with my parents: reading Phantom comics, watching Dr. Who or playing repeats of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' incessantly. Okay so it's not exactly mythical website streaming live out of Mum's basement, but what the hey.

Number 3: I believe that animals are the second greatest things to be put on this Earth, second only to food of course. I love animals, especially cats, much to most peoples discretion.

Number 4: I believe the school i attend has changed me in numerous ways, all positive of course. I am in an absolute euphoric state of mind. My parents think it's odd that a 15 year old girl could be so happy, but it's what Steiner did to me.

Number 5: I believe that no-one at Steiner but Jan understands Eurythmy. (Though, sometimes I'm a little sketchy on whether she really gets it)

Number 6: I believe in words, and literature. Spelling is a truly fantastic thing. I keep a dictionary under my bed and whenever I find a word I'm a little unsure about, i quickly whip out my dictionary. See... secret nerd.

Number 7: I believe I can rock Ingela's world! ROAWR.

Number 8: I believe that details about my birth, life, parents, family, hobbies etc etc are for interrogations and not for blogs. Hence the random facts in place of the Jess Taylor Biography.

Number 9: I believe I am television and music obsessed. Ingela claims I have an 'amazing ability to memorise television episodes and song lyrics, often resulting in outrageously fun times'. But I guess that's because theres either a monologue or a song playing in my mind at all times, there is never silence in my head, better that, my life.

Number 10: Lastly, and this is probably the hardest one to say out loud. Well not really because I'm typing it out, but the thought itself is rather dificult to get through...

I believe in myself: Jessica Mason Taylor.

OK, so i figure this blog is to aid my class in getting to know me, so I suppose I should probably open myself up a little bit more.
As I said earlier, I love language, I write numerous poems, most of which never see the light of day. This poem, however, is a favourite of mine, I wrote it in the car, a thought just popped to mind, and so i had to jot it down. Its a work in progress, and a bit raunchy, so just bear with me. Its yet to be named, if you have any ideas on the name, let me know.

'The everlasting battle,
Unfair in it's advantages.
Lion versus Lamb,
And so the lamb goes to slaughter.

The seductress, gripping the naive's hand tightly, like a malevolent murderer grips his victim's throat.
Splutter, Choke...

And like the victim's life, the naive's innocence is lost in an instant to effortless beauty and charm.

But how could anyone resist?
She looks: such beauty
She moves: such grace
She smells: irresistible.

The naive can only wonder how she sounds, feels...tastes!
Such thoughts cannot be restrained,
Such thoughts cannot sustain,
And so the lamb goes to slaughter."

I love poetry, i love the free reign that comes with creating your own poetry. You can decide whether you want correct grammar, spelling, format.
It's Brilliant!

So I hope you all know a little about the wonder that is 'The Jess'
Hope you enjoyed, I know it was hell to write.
Dave better give me an 'A'!
